Subsequent Moments Simultaneously 2011

The title of this series was conceived around the overlap and paradox, between time and duration. The title draws attention to the way in which these paintings reveal themselves as a series of colours 'over time', but also 'all at once'. These paintings build on histories of non-objective painting and concrete art, where the artwork is foregrounded in its concrete now-ness, rather than referring to other worlds or times or realities, so to draw attention to the flowing succession of moments, again referred to in the title.

These three panels are also evidence of an integrated painterly process, where each panel required the other for its genesis. Two paintings perform the role of stencil edge for the first painting. As a result, one painting is developed on the face, while two canvases reveal the traces of an action on their sides.
